Navigation
Configure your portfolio site's menu — reorder items, toggle visibility, add custom links, and preview the result.
The Navigation section lets you fully customize your portfolio website's menu. Control which items appear, in what order, and with what labels — using drag-and-drop reordering, visibility toggles, and a live preview.
How It Works
Your portfolio site menu is built from a list of navigation items. Each item has a type, a label, and a visibility setting. The order of items in this list is the order they appear in the menu.
When you first visit the Navigation section, a default configuration is generated based on your current site content.
Default vs Custom Navigation
- Default (automatic) — When no navigation config has been saved, the portfolio site falls back to automatic menu ordering: Home, Talents, published pages (by sort order), and Blog (if posts exist)
- Custom (configured) — Once you save a navigation config, it becomes the sole source of truth for the menu. Only items in this list appear in the menu, and only if they are set to visible
Menu Item Types
| Type | Default Label | Path on Site | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Home | Home | / | Singleton — only one allowed |
| Talents | Talents | /talents | Singleton |
| Boards | Boards | /boards | Singleton, hidden by default |
| Portfolios | Portfolios | /portfolios | Singleton, hidden by default |
| Page | (page title) | /pages/:slug | One per published CMS page |
| Blog | Blog | /blog | Singleton, visible if posts exist |
| Custom Link | (your label) | (your URL) | External links with custom labels |
Note: Boards and Portfolios default to hidden, letting you opt in when you have content ready for those listing pages on your portfolio site.
Reordering Items
Drag the handle on any item to move it up or down in the list. The new order is reflected immediately in the menu preview and saved when you click Save.
Toggling Visibility
Each item has an eye icon toggle:
- Eye open — Item is visible in the menu
- Eye closed — Item is hidden from the menu but stays in the list
This lets you temporarily hide items without removing them. Built-in singletons (Home, Talents, Boards, Portfolios, Blog) can be hidden but cannot be removed entirely.
Editing Labels
Click on any item's label to edit it. For example, you might rename "Talents" to "Our Models" or "Blog" to "Journal". The label change only affects the menu — it doesn't change the URL or the content.
Adding Items
Click Add Item to open the dialog with available item types:
- Home, Talents, Boards, Portfolios, Blog — Built-in items. Each singleton type is hidden from the dialog if it's already in your navigation
- CMS Page — Choose from a dropdown of published pages not already in the menu
- Custom Link — Enter a label and a URL for any external link
Removing Items
- Custom links and page items can be removed using the remove button
- Built-in singletons (Home, Talents, Boards, Portfolios, Blog) cannot be removed — use the visibility toggle to hide them instead
Reset to Default
Click Reset to Default to regenerate the navigation config from your current site state. This creates a fresh list with: Home, Talents, your published pages, and Blog (if posts exist). Boards and Portfolios default to hidden.
Important: Resetting replaces your entire custom navigation config. Any custom links, label changes, and ordering will be lost.
Menu Preview
A live preview bar appears below the navigation list, showing the visible items in their current order as they would appear on your site. This updates as you reorder, toggle, or rename items — before you save.
